AJ Fernandez New World

AJ Fernandez New World

The New World is the newest cigar from AJ Fernandez. The AJ Fernandez New World is a medium to full bodied box pressed cigar that comes in four unique sizes. These sizes are:

  • Navegante: 5.5 x 55 Robusto
  • Almirante: 5.5 x 55 Belicoso
  • Gobernador: 6.5 x 55 Toro
  • Virrey: 6 x 60 Gordo

The AJ Fernandez is unique because it is the first cigar that was blended with both AJ and his father Ismael. Ismael recently retired after 17 years with the Plascencia family and has now joined up with his son to give us the AJ Fernandez New World.

The AJ Fernandez New World is a very impressive box pressed cigar. The first thing you notice is the dry dark wrapper coming from Nicaragua. The next thing you notice is that the AJ Fernandez New World has a beautiful cigar band depicting the arrival of some adventurer to what I can only assume is a new world. The foot of the AJ Fernandez New World has a foot ribbon with the AJ Fernandez logo. Overall, the AJ Fernandez New World is a very well constructed cigar that is just waiting to be enjoyed.

New World Full

During the first draw of the AJ Fernandez New World, I am immediately hit with flavor notes of nuts and what I later came to understand as a sweet cocoa. These are the notes that I mainly receive from the AJ Fernandez New World during the first third of the cigar. During the retrohale, the nut flavor is more pronounced with hints of pepper. In the first third of this New World, I have a constant nut and sweet cocoa with hints of pepper. A wood flavor is trying to work itself into this rotation but it has not fully developed as of now.

The second third of the AJ Fernandez New World changes for me. The nut and cocoa flavors are still there but now I am getting coffee, and that wood flavor has developed into oak. The pepper note is a little more constant. All in the cigar is super smooth and tastes amazing. The final third of the AJ Fernandez stayed mostly the same once all the flavors developed in the second third. The only thing that I noticed is that slightly more pepper note was dominant as we went further into the cigar.

The AJ Fernandez website states that the cigar has “Notes of coffee, pepper, wood, and chocolate enthrall and entertain the palate.”

The AJ Fernandez New World is a very enjoyable cigar. I have now smoked several of these cigars and I plan for them to make a heavy rotation in my own humidor. The price point is fantastic and the cigar is beautifully crafted. I have not had a chance to enjoy any other sizes than the Gobernador 6.5 x 55 Toro Box Pressed but look forward to finding and experiencing these other sizes. All in all I am would easily consider this cigar box worthy.
